They got a pretty good football program. Michael Vick was pretty sweet when he went there.
I waffle about a lot of things. This subject of Gun Control is no different. What sets me apart from raving, psycho, loner English majors is the fact that I'm pretty staunchly against guns. For me. And for raving, psycho, loner English majors. Raving psycho loners in general.
But, I'm a live and let live kinda guy. For the most part, nobody's killed me with a gun yet, I'm not too worried about being killed by a gun in the future, and most people are pretty careful with their guns anyway. You can say a lot of things about the NRA and their members being ginormous fuckheads, but two things they are is careful and self-aware about their guns. They know all the laws, all the rules, all the etiquette, and they will break you down and bowl you over if you make a taboo. It is NOT OK to point a gun at someone, even if you think it's not loaded and the safety's on and etc. Careful. With. Guns.
Then, there's that other side of me that thinks guns are wholly unnecessary and should be eliminated across the board. I mean, the argument is simple and has been overstated time and time again: we don't need to have citizen-organized militias because we're not really in danger of our govern ... ment ... OK, so maybe we do need militias. But, if you take the weapons away from everyone, then nobody's got 'em so the playing field is still level.
That, of course, is counter-argued by: "But, the bad guys will ALWAYS find a way to get their guns on the Black Market." This is true, one only needs to look at two things: drugs are illegal and seeping in across all borders; and illegal weapons are illegal and THEY'RE seeping in across all borders. Let's face it, if people want their weapons, they'll find a way to get 'em.
And then I heard the argument proffered by one Eddie Izzard. Like, most of Europe doesn't have guns around, and they're doing all right. Just imagine what it would be like if we did things a little more European. That is, with a little more common sense. Would it really kill us to have to give up our guns?
The National Rifle Association says that, "Guns don't kill people, uh, people do." But I think, I think the gun helps. You know? I think it helps. I just think just standing there going, "Bang!" That's not going to kill too many people, is it? You'd have to be really dodgy on the heart to have that.
